  • Girls Hockey – 3rd Round Schools Cup

The 1st XI squad after their impressive 5-1 win over one of the Schools’ Cup favourites, Armagh Royal. The girls played Armagh in the 3rd Round at Civil Service the Saturday before Christmas. They stamped their authority on the game right from the first whistle and were 1-0 up in the first 45 secs with a great individual goal from Zara Malseed. They had doubled their lead within 3 mins following an impressive break which was neatly finished by Laura McCaw. The girls went 3-0 up just before half time with a well worked penalty corner, buried in the net by Katharine Hill. The girls continued to look dangerous on the break and although Armagh did enjoy a considerable amount of possession they never threatened the goal directly. Zara Malseed added two more well taken goals after some great build up play to really seal the victory. Armagh continued to battle and were awarded a consolation goal right on the final whistle, scoring from a penalty corner. Congratulations to all the squad, they now face Dalriada in the quarter finals on Sat 31 January 2015.  The team are sponsored by the Belfast Telegraph and we thank them for their support.

  • 1st XI Boys Hockey Team

Sullivan 1st XI went into the McCullough Cup semi final as underdogs, with Wallace fielding a team of Ulster and/or Irish players. The first half saw a nervy Sullivan let in an early goal and which left them on the back foot. After a period of consolidation, with good saves from M McCone in goals, Sullivan had a break and J Matchett scored the equaliser. This seemed to only push Wallace on and they immediately from the restart moved up the pitch and scored. Wallace scored again and the first half ended 4-1. After the half time break Sullivan were better organised and defended well but Wallace scored another 2 goals. Final Score Sullivan 1 (J Matchett) – Wallace 6

Following a three-way tie in the group stages Sullivan had a play-off against Cookstown and RBAI. Cookstown were beaten by RBAI in the opening match 1 – nil. RBAI had a rest while Cookstown were the opening opponents for Sullivan. Cookstown knew they had to win to have any chance of qualifying. Sullivan controlled the game, had lots of goal scoring opportunities and came out as winners. Sullivan 2 (J Matchett and R Watts) – Cookstown 0 With Cookstown now out of the competition RBAI knew they had to win their game against Sullivan, while Sullivan knew a draw would allow them to progress to the semi-final. Again Sullivan controlled the game limiting RBAI to only a few chances, Sullivan were given a Penalty Flick when the ball hit an Inst player on the line, stopping a definite goal. The Flick was converted. Sullivan 1 (C Robson) – RBAI 0 Sullivan now face Wallace High in the semi final.
