  • Soroptimist Public Speaking Competition

    Public Speaking success – Cathy Kitchen (Yr12), Rachel McDougall (Yr 13), Shona Davis (Yr 12), Niamh Hughes (Yr 13) and Valeria Patterson (Yr 13) took part in the public-speaking competition in Bangor on Wednesday 23 November 2011 organised by the Soroptimists.  Cathy came first (with her speech entitled ‘The EU – a victim of its own success?’ and Rachel came second with her speech entitled ‘An ageing population – is it my problem?’. Congratulations to all involved.

    Congratulations to Ross Adair (Y14) on being selected to attend the IRFU U18 Schools Camp in December 2011.

  • Congratulations to Our School Nurse!

    Congratulations to our School Nurse! Sullivan Upper School congratulates Nurse Michelle McAvoy on her recent success as Regional Winner (Northern Ireland) for services provided in First Aid at a recent conference held by the Association of First Aiders.  This followed successful first aid treatment carried out by Nurse McAvoy at an incident outside of school. Nurse McAvoy has been responsible for introducing the British Heart Foundation Heartstart training campaign within the school which teaches pupils valuable Emergency Life Support Skills.  Her own recent experience has highlighted to the pupils and the school the importance of such training within the community and we are very proud of her success.   • Geographical Association (GA) Worldwise Quiz

    For over 20 years the Geographical Association has held a national schools competition – the Worldwise Quiz. In Northern Ireland teams of under 15 year olds from ten schools from across the province took part in the regional event held at Queen’s University Belfast. After four rounds of questions on Geography topics including fieldwork techniques, current affairs and photographs the top three teams, Wellington College, Down High (2010 winners) and Sullivan, won their place for the final stage of the competition. After a fiercely fought contest the Sullivan team, consisting of Jason Rothwell, Calum Jones and Jack Torrens, defeated Down High by two marks. The Sullivan Upper team was awarded individual medals, a school shield and the regional trophy. Congratuations to Jason Rothwell, Calum Jones and Jack Torrens (Year 11) on winning the Geographical Association NI Worldwise Quiz.

  • Badminton – Champion of Champions

    On the 15 November 2011 at the National Badminton Centre Lisburn, Victoria Ringland and Ben McMechan represented Sullivan Upper at the Champion of Champions Badminton Tournament. This includes all the number one players from all badminton playing schools in the province.  Victoria was the winner of the Senior Girls singles event. This is the first time a Sullivan pupil has won this major tournament.  Ben won his way through to the final of the Junior Boys beating a top Irish player, Ryan Stewart to win his section. In the final he met Ryan Getty another top Irish player from Wallace High School. After a very good game he went down 21-13, 21-18.  This was an excellent effort and will help them both in their quest to represent Ulster and Ireland this year.  Congratulations to both of them!

    Congratulations to Chris Jordan who came 1st in Men’s Foil and Victoria Duxbury who came 2nd in Women’s Foil.

  • Ulster U18 Girls Hockey Inter-Pros Squad

    Claire Lowry (Left) and Katie McQuillan who are both playing on the Ulster U18 Hockey Squad at the inter-pros tournament which is being held at Civil Service. The Ulster U18 squad won the tournament.

    Congratulations to Matthew Allister, Connor Roberts and Michael Robson for representing Ulster in the U18 Boys Hockey Inter-ProsTournament on 18 – 20 November 2011 in Dublin.
