Hockey News – 1st XI at the All Ireland Finals

 

After a tough opening match against local rivals Sullivan came away with a 2 – 1 win with goals from S Erskine and I Hart.

The following days saw the team travel to Bandon to play Newtown School. Newtown took an early lead, but Sullivan fought back with a goal from H Morris. Sullivan had their chances, but between failing to hit the target and a man of the match performance by the Newtown keeper, Sullivan couldn’t take a lead. Newtown scored from a penalty corner with the last hit of the game.

This left Sullivan needing to beat favourites St Andrews to a 4 goal margin. This added pressure to an already hard task. St Andrews went into a lead. Sullivan continued to work hard and eventually equalised through H Morris. Immediately St Andrews went and scored again from a penalty corner to take the lead and they maintained this throughout the game
