Eco-Club

Eco-club is organised by the Geography Department staff and was started in September 2019.

 

The group consists of passionate members who chose the projects that are tackled and work alongside staff to make a difference to the planet.

 

The group secured Eco-Schools status in June 2025.

Project Examples

Energy Saving Week: the group helped the school become more aware of their energy consumption. They challenged the school community to reduce their energy consumption for five days of the week by carrying out simple tasks such as: switching of unnecessary lights and plug sockets in school. Form classes were give a check list to take home and 162 pupils took part.

Plant Sale:  in June 2025 the group ran their first plant sale and sold flowers, chives, herbs, strawberries and saplings.

Swap Shop: in 2025 the group ran their first Swap Shop with Year 9. We were delighted to invite Fiona from Holywood Oxfam in to school to talk about the impact of Fast Fashion. This stop lots of items ending up on landfill and saved everyone some money.

Green Flag Award: in May 2025 we were awarded our first Green Flag Award, with Mrs Johnston and Mrs Richardson attending the Eco Schools Awards with members of the Eco Committee.
