Boys Hockey News – 1st XI McCullough Cup

 

Sullivan played their first two matches of the McCullough Cup over the last two Saturdays.

Sullivan v Cookstown High

In a slow starting game, Sullivan took the lead with Patrick Rose scoring a reverse stick shot into the roof of the net. This was then followed up by Daniel Girvin scoring a second.

Cookstown pushed on in the second half and Sullivan just couldn’t ‘get going’, Cookstown scored a goal, still Sullivan found it hard to get a grip on the game. With the last play of the game Cookstown were awarded a Penalty Corner, but this was defended well.

Sullivan v Campbell College

This game started much better than last weeks game. Sullivan played well with Campbell happy to let Sullivan have the ball in their own half and Campbell defended from the halfway line. This made it difficult for Sullivan to break into the Campbell area to even take a shot. Sullivan took a halftime lead through goals from Djay Erskine and Harry Yarr.

The second half start with Campbell pushing high against the Sullivan defence. This initially made it difficult for Sullivan, but once they settled into Campbell’s new approach Sullivan used the open space to score a handful of second half goals – with goals from Daniel Girvin, Jack Crossan, Tom McClintock (2) and Jonny Crookshanks

Sullivan next face Wallace High School in the McCullough Cup
