Welcome to the library!
Whatever you want to read, we can probably help you – we have a great range of novels by the best authors currently writing for teenagers, like Robert Muchamore, Darren Shan, Jacqueline Wilson, Anthony Horowitz, Catherine Forde...you’re sure to find your favourite. We also have books for older pupils – from classics like Dickens and Hardy to lighter options like Cecelia Ahern! And if you need books for homework, we’ve a great selection for all school subjects, and suitable for all ages within the school. Just ask one of our librarians for help finding what you need, or look for yourself on the online catalogue.
The library is open from before school starts until an hour after it finishes, so you can come in at a time that suits you. Most books can be borrowed from the library so that you can read them at home – you’re allowed to have them for 2 weeks at a time. If someone else has the book you want, you can reserve it so that you can have it as soon as it’s returned.
The library is run by the librarians, but run for the pupils, so we’re always happy to hear your ideas for how we can make it better. If you’ve just read a fantastic book but we don’t have it, please tell us!
For anyone in years 8 to 10 who loves reading, there is a regular after-school Book Club where you can get together with other book-lovers to chat. We discuss books, play book-related games, and this year ran a fundraising event which made £500 to supply donkey-drawn libraries for some of the poorest countries in Africa.
The library catalogue is now available on all the SEON room computers. From the Start menu, choose All Programs, Core Programs, and Library Inquiry.
Type in whatever you are looking for – author or title or topic – and you will get a list of suggestions. Keep choosing and you will be shown how many copies we have in the library, and whether or not they are on loan. Clicking on the “X” in the top right-hand corner will bring you back to the previous screen to allow you to do another search.
If the book you want is out on loan, or you aren’t sure where in the library to find it, please speak to one of the librarians who will be happy to help.
Don’t forget that you can also ask the librarians for help in searching for a book – the computer option just saves you time if there is a queue at the desk or if the librarian is having one of her vital cups of coffee! |
