Computing department
What do you study in Information technology?
I.T.  is a varied subject where you do lots of different things. You learn valuable skills for now and when you are older.

From Year 8 to 10 pupils at Sullivan have one period per week in the I.T. department to develop their skills in most of the basic software packages used both inside and outside school.  These include:  Word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet, email. Paint packages and Web design.

Pupils entering Year 11 can opt to study ICT as a GCSE subject.  The department currently uses CCEA’s ICT Full Course and we have had great success over the last few years achieving 100% pass rates.
At ‘A’ Level, Year 13 and 14, the department offers a choice of ICT or Computing.  Both courses use the AQA examination board.

ICT is recommend for those pupils who want to improve their knowledge and understanding of the use of technology in a variety of settings but who may not want to specialise in this subject beyond ‘A’ level.  This course develops advanced skills in the use of spreadsheets and databases.

Computing is best suited to those pupils who want to specialise in software engineering, programming and other specialist computing courses at University.  As well as developing advanced skills in generic software packages, the course introduces pupils to the building blocks required by all programming languages and extends pupils knowledge of how various components of the computer system communicate.
